Longmont – Moms Demand Action, the nation’s leading grassroots organization dedicated to gun violence prevention, has named Dr. Karen McCormick DVM as a Candidate of Distinction in her race for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
“As a mom of three, this recognition means a great deal to me,” said McCormick. “Too many Colorado families have suffered losing a loved one to gun violence. It’s long past time for Washington to do something on the federal level. 92% of Americans, including most gun owners, support expanded background checks according to recent polls. This isn’t a partisan issue. But we all know that Congress isn’t going to do anything about common sense gun safety as long as we’re represented by career politicians like Ken Buck who are bought and paid for by the NRA. I will answer to the Moms and people of Colorado on this issue, not the NRA.”
According to Moms Demand Action, “Reducing and preventing gun violence is a public safety issue, not a political one. On average, 96 Americans are killed with guns every day – and hundreds more are wounded by gun violence. Over 35,000 Americans are killed every year by gun violence and thousands more are injured. Responsible gun owners know that supporting the Second Amendment goes hand in hand with common sense solutions to reduce gun violence. Doing more to keep guns out of the hands of felons, domestic abusers and people with dangerous histories, knowing that respecting rights and protecting people go hand-in-hand.”
“Colorado passed universal background checks – and last year it stopped 31 people with homicide records from buying a gun,” said McCormick. “Congress should follow Colorado’s lead. If elected I will work across the aisle to pass common sense gun violence prevention measures that respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners while keeping our communities safe.”
